Miyakono Yasuda “Untitled”
"At some point, I felt the urge to let a lump of wet clay fall—like fruit dropping from a tree." Miyakono Yasuda, from ”Untitled” Works in which vessels and jars, hand-shaped by her own hands, are dropped from a height and then fired in an open flame. The resulting forms, distorted by the forces of nature, seem to melt into the earth or quietly settle like resting animals. Draped in visceral folds and creases, they emanate a curious sense of levitation despite their weight. Born of earth, water, and fire, these pieces carry with them even the unseen forces of time and gravity—tucked into the very pleats of their surfaces. After relocating to Miyazaki in 2010, she encountered remnants of Jomon-era ruins in the region, which led her to explore ancient earthenware through both research and creation.
